The 12 Days of Christmas Garland

Whilst fossicking around my local op shop recently I came across a 50c copy of the Little Golden Book, The Twelve Days of Christmas. I immediately thought of using it to make a simple garland representing the well known Christmas carol.

I simply made a cardboard triangle template and cut out the illustration of each verse of the song, trying to capture as much of the illustration as possible. A few of the pages needed a little tweaking (i.e. I cut out the characters who did not fit into the template space and glued them into place).

I used red bias binding and machine sewed with a zig zag stitch, each of the triangles into place.

Simple but sweet, I think!

  3. Lovely – such a nice idea (if I can bring myself to cut up some books may just give it a go too). Looks great! Thinking could do all sorts of these with the other Golden Books too. Have the Christmas Story one and lots of Nursery Rhyme ones and of course the Saggy Baggy Elephant and Pokey Little Puppy. Thanks for the inspiration.

This is gorgeous! What a fantastic idea for the golden book. I've seen people make journals form the covers before and lots of other knick knacks, but never anything like this. Well done!

  15. I know that you posted this in 2009 but it's still just as beautiful and just as 'new' in 2010. I'm currently searching my local thrift stores for a book I can use. Thank you for sharing such a wonderful idea. Hope 2010 holidays are wonder fiilled for you and yours.
