The Post In Which I Might Be Bragging

As mothers we often think that everything our child does is simply amazing, miraculous even (which is a good thing for me or there would be no need for parenting blogs, right! LOL!)

So straight up I am going to tell you that this blog post includes a little bit of bragging because I really wanted to share this…
Well, that chalk scribble is certainly nothing to brag about, I hear you say. The amazing thing (at least to me), was that as she drew Immy said, “Round and round,” and then, “Eyes,” and then, “Arm,” and, “Arm.” (see below)
It was so cute, she even drew the right arm with the chalk in her right hand and then swapped the chalk to the left hand to draw the left arm.

I included Susan Striker’s stages of drawing development in a previous post and it says that at about 24-30 months, children “Draws freer circular scribbles and begins to include a variety of scribble shapes in drawing.” I think this may be the very beginning of this stage.

I hope you don’t mind my sharing this little milestone with us. I think it is nice to acknowledge and celebrate what our children can do and hope you don’t mind me bragging, just a little!

What is something new that your child has recently done that you are proud of? Go on, have a little brag by leaving a comment below!

I'm very proud of hearing my 3 yo Son say to his sister – 'You grabbed me and that's not nice!' Not so proud of the hit that went with it but very good using his words!

Yay Immy on the person too!

Brag away… that's a gorgeous early person-drawing. I'll post a brag painting on my blog in a few days too 🙂

  3. Well done Immy! Great to see you drawing.

  4. Well Immy does have a very creative mother and her grandmother is talented in that direction too so one would expect she too would follow in their footsteps. Brag away Christie…these tiny achievements are what parenthood is all about…seeing your offspring develop as little people on their way to adulthood. Wonderful.

I could see the drawing taking shape (even without your help:) I love it! I remember years ago visiting a friend and on her kitchen counter was a paper with little "scribbles" her almost three year old had made. I picked it up and she laughed and said – "yeah.. we are still working on our drawing skills.." but it was clear that he had written the letters in his name S A M. They were a little scattered but clear. My friend was amazed when she realized that those scribbles were actually even better then drawing skills – they were the signs of emerging reading and writing skills. Every scribble is to be valued – just like your daughters:)

It is cute. I'd be proud too. I have a similar one my daughter did about five years ago. I've kept it all this time!

I could totally see the person before you even pointed it out! Pure genius!
Of course all our children are geniuses… um.. genii? My small one is a genius because he knew his colours before he was two and at 2.5 can do a 12 piece floor puzzle! Genius I tell you!

  8. Wow, this is really great! Go Immy! You feel free to brag…it is SO amazing to see our little ones grown and learn so much.

I have a 2 year old who is a great puzzle-er. He's doing 24 piece puzzles! Woot woot! We're still working on drawing/coloring though. He's never been into it really.

I love studying children's artwork, especially the scribbles. Too bad this one is in chalk — at least you've saved in with a photo!

My little girl started regularly saying, "Papa" each time I would enter the room at 3 months! We couldn't believe it. To this day (she's now 13) people compliment her for her articulateness.

Each one is a perfect human specimen.

I left you a Happy 101 Award on my fingerplay blog. Feel free to tag others if you wish but I mostly wanted to be able to share your blog with others.

  11. That is such a cute drawing!
Yes, all our kids are genuises.
My girl can sing the full "alphabet song" and "twinkle twinkle little stars" at 19 mth old and can talk in simple sentences. She just turned 20 mths old today and I take pride in seeing her learn new tricks and skills everyday!

I love hearing about all of the unique and clever things your littlies are doing. Keep the bragging going!

  13. Way to go Immy!

My little genius (Master 3) does 48 piece jigsaw puzzles on his own and has done so for quite a few months. As long as the puzzle is of Lightening MacQueen, Spider Man or Ben 10 he will do it. I also overheard him counting to himself in the car…..he went right up to the number 12!

I'm all for a good brag……we deserve it after all the hard work, dirty nappies, tantrums, meals, cleaning etc etc etc.

That is pretty awesome! If only it had been on a piece of paper you could have framed it.
My girl didn't start drawing people until she was over 3 and now it is all people all the time.

It has to be one of my all time favourite stages in a child's development. The little people they draw are so cute. Thanks for sharing Immy's gorgeous picture. It made me smile!

I'm just happy with my little Miss H saying, "mum, mum, mum" and doing actions to "Rock-a-bye Your Bear." Miss M is in the "why?" stage so lots of interesting questions are coming our way about babies (yes the big question!), questions about God and anything else that pops into her head.

Lots to celebrate with all of our kids hey!

I don't know if "bragging" is my intention – hopefully it's not! 🙂 – but as I daily record the magic of my children and their brilliance, I suppose it's the same.
It's my position that life and living and learning is beautiful and amazing… so why not appreciate it?
    Everyone should!

    Nice to meet you! 🙂

I took off the floaties (with 4 kids I just put them on automatically) and she swam. All by herself, never had a lesson = very proud mum and somewhat baffled. Did I miss something? Its possible.

My son has started playing with a stuffed globe and a USA map floor puzzle lately, asking us to name places, and he can suddenly locate about 30 countries and at least half the states. I love when their minds do those great leaps. Love the drawing my your little artist. 🙂
