We Play: It’s Really Easy!

With the warmer weather here in Perth, I am always looking for fun ways to incorporate water play in our day.  I find that water is so soothing to young children, helping to slow them down and centre them, and that even toddlers will spend extended periods of time playing with water.  Combining this with my love of little play scenes, this week Immy and I created a water wonderland for her sea creatures and a few of her other play figurines…

… using a large pot plant base and a small bowl of sand to act as our deserted island, a weed as our palm tree (LOL!) and some large shells as boats.  Even I love playing in this little world!

What have you been playing in your little corner of the world?  Is the weather influencing your play choices?

We’ve been playing outside with water and then coming inside for long baths.

  3. What a cute idea. My daughter enjoys water play too and will happily keep herself busy doing so for ages.

  4. I am passionate about small world play! Loving your little water wonderland- just perfect.

  5. We sometimes do something similar to this but include an “iceberg” that has been frozen overnight and play with it until it’s all melted away!

  6. Lots of water play in our household too – the calming aspect of the water makes sense – never heard it being described like that but makes total sense…

  7. Water play is good for all of us… child or adult. Ok maybe that is just because I am a big kid at heart! LOL

  8. this is great!! we have some of those little figurines too – it’s been raining miserably here in melbourne and its humid, so a couple of times i just let the kids splash in the water for real water play 😉 otherwise it’s indoors with the paints and playdough xxx

My youngest is well past toddler years but he loves water play.
This week, he’s taken toys/props into the paddling pool and even asked to have a bath in the middle of the day just to play! This week his chosen theme is pirates, last week it was dinosaurs, who knows what it will be next week! LOL

  10. I think we have that same set of figurines and I love what you did with them. Since it’s snowy here, we’ve been doing a lot of figurines in shaving cream play so they can skid around in the pretend snow.

  11. Where did you get all little cute animals from? I really would like to try this with our three children. Thank you
