We Play: Let’s Play Together

It has been so hot here lately that our outdoor physical play options have been more than a little limited.  Often during the day we incorporate physical play into our indoor play with lots of dancing, yoga moves and even bike riding around the house (!) – mind you Immy is only just learning to pedal herself and doesn’t get very far without help 🙂

Another physical activity we have been enjoying is bean bag target throwing into a low sided box. I used a small piece of electrical tape to mark where Immy and I should stand when throwing and off we went, lots of fun (you can check out my bean bag making tutorial here).

What physical play games do you take indoors when the weather is not conducive to too much outdoor time? And what have you been playing this week?

We Play is a place to link up your own play experiences. Please read this post if it is your first time playing. If you are viewing this by email or in a reader, you will need to click through to the posts to see the links.

  1. I know this is juvenile, but … WOOO HOO! FIRST! 😉

Hope the summer’s treating you well, Christie.

  2. We have been hitting the Wii a fair bit – so much so that we broke our Wiimotes 🙁
Now we are having races up and down the corridor and playing a game Annie suggested that I will blog about for next weeks We Play.

  3. In honor of your heat I linked up my recipe for “People Puppy Chow” which we sometimes call “Snow Candy”. You could make a batch of it, jump around the kitchen as you shake the bag to mix, and then pretend it is very cold and you are eating little bits of snow. Thanks for hosting!

  4. I love that even though everyone is at diff hemispheres we are experiencing the same thing: us to tired of the cold, you to tired of the heat. In any case I love those bean bags and I remember as a child picking them up with feet as a part of a gym class, no idea why.

  5. Funny that you are too warm while most of US and Europe is way too cold. We are in CA, so there is almost always a chance to spend time outside. Our favorite inside games are balloons and “monsters are after us” game that involves running around the living room being chased by pretend monsters.

    1. Oooh, we haven’t had balloons out for ages. Thanks for the reminder, Natalie.

  6. Ha! I’m posting about snow day activities and you’re sweating the heat.

    LOVE this blogging world!

In South Texas we know how hot summers can be! We are lucky to have Aunt Joyce’s cold river nearby to cool off on those extra hot days.

Today it was in the 70’s here in South Texas. Tomorrow it will be in the 20’s. If nothing else, we learn how to be flexible around here!

  8. It’s funny, only yesterday I was saying to a friend that my next sewing project for our sewing day was to be numbered bean bags for Grace – such a versatile ‘toy’.

  10. So much fun to join in with WE PLAY and read all the posts. Today I linked up Park Fun, Lacing Beads, and a family trip to the river in the mountains of Hot Springs North Carolina. We learn so much through play!

  11. I’m your newest fan!! I just linked up a craft we did today, the Peeking Groundhog. When it gets cold outside we get crafty! So glad I found you. As a former kindergarten teacher I FIRMLY believe in play also! Great site with great ideas and I can’t wait to explore it more!
