Fellow blogger, Bron of Taylor Made, shares her family’s experiences geocaching. They love it and you might too!
For us as a family the idea of camping was just not going to fit with out busy life….but then some friends mentioned something called Geocaching!
Geocaching (pronounced geo-cashing) is a worldwide game of hiding and seeking treasure. A geocacher can place a geocache anywhere in the world, pinpoint its location using GPS technology and then share the geocache’s existence and location online. Anyone with a GPS device can then try to locate the geocache.
I thought this might be a fun way of exploring the outdoors without having to all the trouble of camping so we purchased a hand held GPS, signed up for the free membership on the Geocaching website and we were off.
This is such a fun and exciting pastime for all ages. Our children were 4 and 10 when we began and they just loved the whole idea of hunting for treasure. At each final location you’ll find a small box containing a variety of trinkets that are there for swaps. We keep a treasure bag in our car at all times so there is always a supply of treasure for swaps.
It is a always fun to invite friends to join you on an adventure.
So on the next fine sunny day why not pack a picnic, grab some friends and try geocaching….don’t forget to sign up and gather some little treasures to swap. You won’t believe the fun that can be had.
Have you tried geocaching? For those who have, where in the world have you found treasure?
