Mummy Blogging: The Best of Both Worlds

Once upon a time there was a girl who truly believed she had the best of both worlds.

She travelled the world.

Went to movies late at night.

Slept in on weekends.

And she had the best job ever. You see, she worked with young children.

Each day was bright with smiles.

Each day she was embraced with unconditional love.

Each day she watched with fascination as young minds amazed her with their discoveries.

Each day she shared the lives of amazing, diverse families.

Each day she had the privilege of working with passionate, committed colleagues.

Each day she taught, supported, facilitated, planned, coached, researched, proclaimed and, most importantly, learnt.

She was happy, growing professionally, appreciated.

When people asked her if she planned to have children she would patiently explain how she truly had the best of both worlds.

Then one day the girl’s view of the world began to change. It was probably the boy’s fault. And hormones. And growing up.

Because all of a sudden there was an inkling of an idea. Maybe having a family of her very own was something that she wanted after all.

The girl and the boy talked and they planned and they budgeted and they nested.

And they were blessed with a beautiful baby.

Where she had once been happy, now the girl knew true joy.

And that wee baby opened the girl’s eyes to a whole new way of seeing the world.

The girl had thought that she would go back to work.

That she would miss that part of her that had been so important for so many years.

But as much as she loved to teach she could not bear the thought of leaving the wee baby.

And yet the girl still had a yearning to share, to help, to support, to inspire.

In fact, she now felt that responsibility even more keenly.

Because she could see everyday in her own home how important childhood was.

And also how fleeting it was.

Especially in this modern day world.

So the girl started a blog.

She began to share her stories.

And driven by her passion.

And the wonderful community that grew around her.

And the friends she made all around the world.

And the contributions of the fabulous mamas who joined her in this place…

The girl has continued to tell this story for almost three years now.

And she hopes that in some small way she is helping to make the world a better place for young children and their families.

Because being a mama and a blogger, now the girl really does have the best of both worlds.
