Our Play Space: Our Open Plan Play Space

A peek inside a reader’s play space…

This is a new play space for our little boy (2.5 years old) and his baby sister as she grows up. I wanted to incorporate arts and crafts materials so Jake can decide what he wants to do, rather than me directing a specific activity. I also wanted a Jake-sized table and chair for him to be able to sit and draw, colour, do puzzles or whatever he wants; to go with this there is a cupboard with some books, paper, crayons and pens, and another cupboard with all his puzzles. This cupboard also has his train set, building blocks, and various other bigger toys which can be played with in the big open space in the centre of the area. There is also a magnetic board with various activities.

It’s an open space with lots of choice and learning opportunities, which is what I was hoping for. Jake seems to really appreciate all the aspects of the space, and has already been engaging with new things after only 3 days!

Thank you to Katherine of Creative Playhouse for sharing your play space with us.

What a lovely place for Jake to play and what a clever use of the space beneath the stairs.

I like that you have provided lots of activity options within your new play space. Can see how Jake would be encouraged to use engage. Nice work! 🙂
