Top 10 Perth School Holiday Activities

Today I have teamed up with fellow Perth mama, Caprice Burrows of Out & About in Perth With Kids. For those of us living in Perth, Caprice’s blog and Facebook page are both wonderful resources for finding fabulous, local, family friendly activities. Today Caprice has done the hard work for us – finding 10 fun filled, local activities for the upcoming April school holidays (12 April-27 April).

1. Star Wars Jedi Experience

Description: This school holidays live out your dream of becoming a Jedi Knight! Engage with Jedi Masters, don a Jedi robe and use the Force to master the art of the Lightsaber! Young Jedi Knights complete their training by being inserted into a Star Wars scene and receiving a complimentary Star Wars photo! Activities include:

  • Lightsaber Training: 10-15 minute sessions hosted by 2 Jedi Masters. Sessions commence every 30 minutes.
  • Photo Station: Using green screen technology, kids appear in their favourite Star Wars scene.

2. Dinosaur Discovery: Lost Creatures of the Cretaceous

Description: Featuring more than 20 moving, life-sized dinosaur models, this is a dino-exhibition like none you’ve seen before! Premiering 11 April 2014, you will be blown away by the size and authenticity of the fascinating creatures that lived 145-65 million years ago in an era that boasted the most diverse range of dinosaurs. The exhibition will feature all your favourites including a T-Rex and a 16 metre long Brachiosaurus but also include a number of species rarely seen before. Each of the models, made to scientifically exact specifications, will move and interact with one another. In addition to the dinosaurs, this exhibition features cutting edge 3D augmented reality technology not seen before in Western Australia. There will also be fossils and dinosaur specimens to touch and feel. Kids can also enjoy a range of informative, hands-on activities in the dedicated play area located in the museum grounds.

3. City Playground Pass

Description: Get your pass packed full of great holiday discounts and special offers for family fun only available in the City from the marquee in Murray Street Mall, City of Perth i-City kiosk and other participating venues.
Activities include;
Easter Egg Workshops – Forrest Place, 14th-17th April, 10am-2pm. Let the kids express their creative side this Easter! Bring them to Forrest Place for Styrofoam egg decorating workshops using textas, stickers, glitter and other fun materials
The Crunchy Munchy Carrot Show – Forrest Place, Monday 14th-17th April, show times are 10.30am, 12pm & 1.30pm. Kids can join the Easter Bunny on her adventure to turn ordinary carrots into Easter eggs in this hilarious show with music, dance and magic, audience participation and, of course, Easter eggs!
Perth City Easter Fun Day – Forrest Place, Saturday 19th April, 11am-3pm. A day of Easter fun for the kids with a giant inflatable maze, bunny and chick petting zoo, workshops for basket-making, happy Easter bunnies and gingerbread decorating, free chocolate eggs, and the Crunchy Munchy Carrot Show.
Bizircus Show & Circus Workshops – Forrest Place, 21st-24th April. Everybody loves a circus! Members of Perth’s favourite circus troupe, Bizircus, will showcase their unique blend of comedy and great circus skills in 40 minute shows at 11am and 1pm. Between performances they will conduct circus workshops with children including juggling, lasso, diabolo and other fun activities.

4. Rats & Hats at the Shipwreck Galleries

Description: The rats are back! Track down these pesky and adventurous sailors in the Riddled With Rats trail before they nibble all of our ship’s biscuits! With the sharp eyes of a Rat Detective, you’ll have to search high and low to find these experts at hide-and-seek. Make yourself a papercraft hat in the finest Naval Tricorn or French Bonnet style to brave the high winds at sea.

5. Dr Dolittle Goes Bush, Bibbulman Track

Description: A 4km return stroll for children (6-12yrs) to a typical campsite to see and learn about our native animals from the Kanyana Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre.

6. Lego Brick Zone

Description: Karrinyup Shopping Centre is excited to be bringing the LEGO Brick Zone to Karrinyup this April School Holidays. LEGO® brick events bring the creative, hands-on fun of LEGO bricks to kids and families with an engaging and imaginative experience that stimulates creativity and learning. From free play and building at custom made LEGO play tables, there are plenty of activities to keep kids entertained.

7. IKEA Kid’s Academy

Description: When school’s out, have fun at our Kids’ Academy! Activities include;

  • Tue 15 April – Join our crafts station, we’ll show you how to make your very own Easter decorations.
  • Wed 16 April – Is circus your thing? Then come to our circus workshop. Lots of fun to be had!
  • Thu 17 April – Watch Kate the cake decorator when she makes Easter cupcakes.
  • Tue 22 April – We’re making paper airplanes, come and join us!
  • Wed 23 April – It’s magic! Come along and get stunned at our magic show.

8. Circus Workshops, Mandurah Performing Arts Centre

Description: After the hugely popular sell out circus workshops in January, we are bringing back even more. Learn a new skill and have loads of fun. Our workshops run by Pulse Productions Inc. include skills that will increase confidence & concentration, build team work & communication and are run in a safe, non competitive & nurturing environment. 9. Ballerina Bunny – Fun @ Cockburn Libraries

Description: A sweet story about how the Easter Bunny came to be (with lots of Australian animal friends!), plus singing and dancing for everyone to join in.

Cost: $12 per child – pay once and stay all day! Parental supervision required at all times.
Bookings: Bookings preferred. Visitors are requested to bring along an empty 2 litre soft drink bottle for rocket making.  All additional materials provided.

  1. You had me all excited! I live 30 minutes from Perth, and was all excited about activities and days out to take my children during the holidays. Then I realised that this post is about Perth… Australia. The Perth I live near is Perth… Scotland!
