  • 125gm butter
  • 1/2 cup castor sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cups plain flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 Tablespoon milk
  • Strawberry jam

  1. Preheat oven to 170C fan forced.
  2. Beat butter, sugar and vanilla with an electric mixer until smooth.
  3. Add egg and mix until well combined.
  4. Sift flour and baking powder over mixture. Add milk and mix until combined. Don't over mix.
  5. Roll tablespoons of mixture into balls and place onto a lined baking tray (allow room for spreading). Flatten gently with the back of a dessertspoon. Make a heart shaped indentation in the dough with your fingertip (pinky fingers work best for big hands, kids can use pointers!).
  6. Fill heart shapes with strawberry jam.
  7. Bake for 12-15 minutes. Allow to cool on tray for 5 minutes before transferring to wire rack to cool completely.

  1. Jam drops is one of my girls FAVOURITE things to make – we usually head around and gift them to our neighbours (so mummy doesn’t eat them all!) My girls will flip out over these love hearts – what an awesome idea! :) :) We’ll be doing this on the weekend Christie!

Is castor sugar the same as cane sugar? And what would the equivalent in teaspoons or tablespoons be with the butter? I am from the USA and really want to make these! Thank you!

In the US we call them thumbprint cookies. I love them! Christmas favorite!
