Craft Stick & Watercolour Sculpture

Craftstick and watercolour sculpture

I love displaying my children’s artwork in our home and when I saw the morning light shining on these simple craft stick sculptures that hang in our playroom I just knew that I had to share them here. These really are so easy to make and when hung they just look so interesting. Here’s the how-to…

Craft Stick & Watercolour Hanging Sculpture

You will need:

  • Plain, uncoloured craft sticks
  • White craft (PVA) glue (older children could work with a low heat hot glue gun)
  • Baking paper
  • Watercolour paints, liquid watercolours or marker pens
  • String or fishing line to hang.

To make:

1. Working on a baking paper base, glue craft sticks together to create a free-form shape, overlapping the sticks as you go.

2. Once the glue is dry, colour the craft sticks with watercolours or marker pens.

3. Peel away the baking paper, add string and hang.

Hello! I am wondering why the kids did not paint the craft sticks first.
Were you thinking the paint of glue would run?
    Just curious! Thanks

    1. I think it would work either way, Bridget. I just thought it would be a bit more interesting to paint the sticks once the sculpture is formed rather than painting plain sticks, but that is my adult brain thinking, children probably wouldn’t care 🙂

  3. What do you mean by baking paper? Are you referring to parchment paper or to waxed paper?

    Thanks!!
