Kids Books 101: Parrot Carrot

I have written before about the value of rhyme and the fun that playing around with rhyming words can add to early literacy development ( you’ll find references in these posts – here, here and here).

We recently received a copy of the newly released Parrot Carrot by Jol and Kate Temple (Allen & Unwin, 2011).

It’s a lot of fun – quirky illustrations and simple rhyming text; Immy loves to ‘read‘ it to herself.

However, it is not just a book for almost-4-year-olds, I can imagine using Parrot Carrot as a wonderful tool for exploring rhyme and creative drawing with older children as well.

  1. I didn’t know it was a book as well as an iPhone app! My girls love that as it overlays these images over the view from your camera framed as binoculars. You have to spot the rhyming pair – parrot carrot = you made a rhyme!

  2. Looks like lovely little book. I’ll be looking ouy fot it.
