Kids & Chores: Printable Setting the Table Placemats

As I shared recently, our intention is to get our children involved with a more regular schedule of chores this year as I admit it has been more than a little hit and miss in our house until now.

At ages two (nearly three!) and seven one chore that both girls are able to help with is setting the table for the evening meal. To help them achieve a greater level with independence with this task I decided to create a set of printable placemats to help them remember  which side of the plate each cutlery item should be placed.

HELPING CHILDREN WITH CHORES-Printable Placemats for Setting the Table

These printable placemats make the task super simple for children of all ages, and only take a moment to print and laminate.

I had a little fun playing around with a few different background designs and have shared the printable file below. It includes;

  • 3 different coloured versions: one with a red background, one with a blackboard style background and one with a polka dot background
  • 2 plain black and white place setting printables (one without a spoon for those who generally just set the table with a knife and fork)

The black and white version is great for those who would like to invite their children to  decorate their own table setting placemat.

Click here to download: Printable Table Setting Placemats . You will be prompted to save the PDF to your computer. Open the PDF and print the pages you require – remember the printable includes a number of different styles.

When printing, select “Fit to printable area” (or similar) to ensure the page fits with your printer type and local paper size. I suggest printing onto card stock or matte photo paper. Laminate printed mats for durability.

  1. Thanks for sharing these. I really needed something like this for my girls.

  2. Is it possible for you to do left handed table setting? I loved the red back ground… but would love it in reverse!
