Mum 2 Mum: Planning for Christmas Day

I must say, considering everything that has been happening over the past few months and the fact that I am now in Kuala Lumpur for four days for the Nuffnang Asia Pacific Blog Awards ceremony tonight, I am feeling relatively relaxed about Christmas.

The tree is up, the presents bought and carols sung. We have a simple plan for Christmas Day and I fully intend to keep it as easy and relaxed as I can.

In our house, we’ll start the day with Immy’s stocking and breakfast for the three (and a half) of us 🙂

This year Christmas lunch is at our house. I think I actually prefer it this way. I would rather spend my time doing a little cleaning in preparation (which has to be done anyway) then spend Christmas day driving around between relatives. There will be presents (though this year I have deliberately bought less), Christmas carols (despite the groans of many!), good food, and there is sure to be embarrassing family stories! But everyone is bringing a contribution to the meal which makes the preparation easy, especially for someone with limited culinary talents! There will be laughter and joy and a very excited almost 4 year old for whom we will be creating important family memories which will hopefully last a lifetime.

What will Christmas Day look like for your family?

  1. Congratulations! Ours will be about the same. I make (buy frozen from a bakery) cinnamon rolls, and while those are baking the girls will go through their stockings. Then we’ll eat and get dressed, maybe. My parents will spend the day with us I’m sure they’ll help me cook, my mom and I will go through a bottle of wine, and my dad, husband and oldest will probably be playing her new xbox kinect game and hot wheels tracks. Our youngest will just be running around asking for cheese. That’s just how I see things happening. Small and calm

  2. Good luck for the ceremony! I am looking forward to hearing all about it.

A relaxed Christmas day is our plan too. We’re not hosting this year, but we are lucky in that very little travel is involved in our day. Now, it all about the wrapping. pressies are purchased and waiting to be wrapped.

    1. Thank you, Elise. Immy is loving helping with the wrapping this year 🙂

  3. Sounds like a lovely day for your family. We are having a big, relaxed brunch, a minimal (late) lunch followed by a nap, then a huge family dinner with all the trimmings. It works for us as no-one gets too excited or overtired. Mothers included. We are having a quiet one this year and will travel on Boxing Day to visit family.

    1. It’s very important to look after the mothers 🙂 Hope you enjoy a wonderful day.

  4. I’m excited about this year! Most of my husband’s family are coming to us for Christmas (from Detroit U.S.) so our little house will be full to the brim with lots of laughing, presents being opened and Aussie style Christmas food. My daughter is going to love it – and so are we!

    1. It sounds wonderful, Naamah. How nice to have family travelling to spend the day with you, have fun!

  5. That sounds great, Christie!

Our plans are simple too. We will wake up and do stockings, then breakfast, then presents. Most of our family lives far away, so usually we spend some time video chatting with relatives on Christmas. I am starting to plan our Christmas lunch menu and trying to make it simple too. Like we did for Thanksgiving… especially now that we have a child, it feels really good to simplify things during the holidays. Slow down and spend more time together! I spend so much time in the kitchen anyways, so I like to make food ahead of time for the holidays so we can just reheat it and not have to worry about making big meals on the day when you should be relaxing and marveling at the magic unfolding 🙂

I hope you have a lovely Christmas.

    1. Isn’t it wonderful to have the capacity to video chat with family who can’t be with us for special occasions? Best wishes for a lovely day xx

I would love to have Christmas at home. We tried it once, no one came 🙁 My parents ALWAYS have it at their house, and my in-laws know what a big day it is there so seem happy for us to go there and do Christmas Eve or Boxing Day with them.

This year I am on trifle and ham. We all contribute something to the day, but it is HUGE. Always has been. And, if Miss 5 grows up with the same fondness for Christmas that I still have it will be worth it 😀

    1. It must be nice to be able to spread out the celebration over Christmas Eve and Boxing Day, Amanda 🙂 With only my family here, that sharing the day headache is avoided for us. I am sure that Miss 5 is creating wonderful memories with your extended family. Have a fabulous day xxx

  7. We kind of have a simple Christmas planned here. We will be getting up when the baby does, do Santa and stockings, then relax, get loaded into the car and head up to my father’s house for Christmas lunch/dinner. Then staying with him through the New Year and his Birthday. It’s a 4 hour drive, but well worth it. Oh, and LO will be spending Thursday afternoon through Saturday afternoon (Christmas Eve) with her father and brother and do their Christmas stuff, since she will be travelling with me Christmas day. (I get Christmas eve night and Christmas morning. 🙂 )

    1. Your plans for Christmas sound lovely, Melissa. Wishing you a safe and happy holiday xx
