Homemade Rose Playdough Recipe

I used to think that it was easier to buy playdough but in reality those little tubs don’t hold much actual playdough! So I turned to making our own playdough and found it super easy, and so much more cost efficient. And there is nothing quite like a big batch of fresh, warm playdough. Especially when it is rose scented!
Homemade Rose Playdough Recipe

This recipe combines rose water and dried rose petals with our favorite no-cook playdough recipe – you will find the complete recipe below. You can even involve your children with making the playdough to extend the learning.
Once it’s ready, combine your fresh batch of playdough with some additional dried rose petals, your choice of cookie cutters, rolling and plastic knives and sit back to observe the wonderfully rich sensory play that will unfold.
Rose Playdough Recipe
Materials
- 2 cups cornflour
- 1/2 cup salt
- 2 tablespoons cream of tartar
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 1/2 cups boiling water
- Rose water
- Pink food colouring
- Dried rose petals
Tools
- Measuring cups
- Measuring spoons
- Saucepan
- Wooden spoon
- Chopping board
Instructions
- Mix the flour, salt, cream of tartar and oil together in a large bowl.
- Add pink food coloring and a few drops of rose water to boiling water.
- Mix the water into the dry playdough mixture and once combined turn out the whole batch onto your kitchen bench.
- Knead the mixture until smooth.
- Add extra hot water if the mixture is too dry or small amount of flour if it is too wet.
- Once your playdough is a lovely, smooth, non-sticky consistency, knead in a handful of dried rose petals.
Notes
Store playdough in an airtight plastic bag when not in use.
