The Best of Our Play Space: 5 Inspiring Outdoor Play Spaces

With the ‘Our Play Space’ series running for over a year now I thought it would be fun to highlight some of the great spaces featured so far. Last week was all about indoor play spaces and this week we turn our attention outdoors…

Eiya’s Casita and Cocinita (Little House and Kitchen) is refreshingly simple, I just love the use of natural materials. Wooden stumps, a bamboo teepee, water wise plants and herbs, and a collection of thrifted objects create a wonderfully special space for sensory and imaginative play.

Mud pie anyone? This Mud Pie Station from Small Potatoes is inspiring! Find more details here on their blog.

What child wouldn’t want to bang on the banging post, make thunder sounds with the thunder drum, jingle the tambourines, and test out the xylophones and chimes in this fantastic outdoor music space! You can read more about it over here at Child Central Station.

I thought this idea for extending the fun potential for her daughter’s swing set from Carrie of Crafty Moms Share was very clever.

Whilst we may not all have a maple grove in our backyard, a mature tree is the perfect place to hang a swing and as Heather of WordPlayHouse shares here, it is a lot easier to hang a swing then to assemble a large play set.  I am wondering if our mulberry tree is mature enough yet?

Next week I will be sharing great ideas for creative spaces! Be sure not to miss out by subscribing to the Childhood 101 RSS feed or receiving blog updates straight to your email.

Do you have a family or kids play space in your home that you love (indoors or outdoors)? Submit your play space here and you too could be featured on Childhood 101.  See the entire series of previous Our Play Space posts for more inspiration!
