Mum 2 Mum: Are You Ever Too Old to…

So tell me honestly, Mum to Mum.  Are you ever too old to …

wear pretty headbands???

It is no secret that I am not the youngest of Mums (and with another birthday fast approaching, I am reminded of this everyday!), and I was talking to a friend recently about whether or not women of a certain age are just too old to get away with wearing decorative headbands.  And if so, how old is too old?

Maybe there is, or maybe there isn’t? What do you think?

P.S. If you are reading this in a Reader, you wont see the great new blog design so why not pop over and say hi 🙂

  1. The only time you are too old for something is when you believe you are. All you need is a good dose of style and confidence and it will take you right through your whole life. The trick to knowing if it works for you or not, is if you feel like it is wearing you rather than the other way around.
    Xx Happy New Year!

    1. I like your trick. I think too often the problem is lack of confidence. If only we all had just a pinch of your style, SKM 🙂

    2. You nailed it, SKM. When you stop believing in your ability to do something, or carry it off in style, and with confidence, it’s gone kaputzky.

      1. Ah yes I think you nailed it SKM…. it is all in the way you wear something rather than what you wear.
And on the confidence thing.. I am all for ‘fake it till you make it’!

  2. Love your new design it’s gorgeous Christie.
I would wear one if I found the right one …just saying.

  3. I LOVE headbands! And I say you are never to old to wear one, start with a small plain headband and the more confident you get the bigger your hair accessories can get 🙂
I am loving the new website, you have done a great job

    1. You don’t think the more mature you get (in years), the more discreet one should be when it comes to these things?

Christie this new look site is GORGEOUS!! And who is to say when we are too old to wear headbands? In fact, when I do some much needed retail therapy today I may even get myself one!

    1. Thank you for your kind words 🙂 I look forward to seeing your new headband, you must share!

  5. The new website looks great! And no, you are never to old for anything, if it makes you happy and makes you feel pretty.

    Hi there.
I think that each person needs to assess what style of clothing and accessories suits them as an individual. It’s the same for haircuts. You’re never too old or young for a particular style, just so long as it suits you. Some prefer to dye their hair at a certain age when the greys start to stand out, others prefer to disguise through pretty haircuts or headbands or other pretty clips etc. I agree with what is said above, more than anything, what you wear should be governed by how it makes you feel. If headbands make you feel young, pretty, feminine, then wear them to your hearts content!

  7. May seem crazy… Now that I’ve hit my 30’s I’m much more adventurous in my clothing and accessories. I would have been too afraid to stand out when I was in my 20’s. Now, I figure I better wear the cute stuff before I start liking grandma sweaters. 😉 I’ve purchased and even enjoyed wearing several outfits that nobody else I know would dare to wear (dresses over a pair of jeans, etc.). Life is too short to be afraid to enjoy it!

    1. I think I have become less adventurous since becoming a Mum. The changes in my body and my budget are both to blame.

  8. I don’t think you can ever be too old for pretty headbands! Maybe we can be too old for short skirts or bikini tops but anything that goes on our head or on our feet are limitless!

    1. That’s a great way to look at it, Danielle.

    2. Perfect answer…I agree 100%

  9. I think SKM has it in one. I could never pull it off because I don’t have the confidence for girlie things like that. I can sport lycra running gear because I am comfortable in that…but a head band – not me. But you’re never too old for something that makes you happy 🙂

  10. Love the new look Christie. Congratulations. It must have taken some late nights to pull it all together. Thesis rocks – I am sure you will love it=.

I reckon you could pull off a fancy headband. I occasionally still wear my hair in pigtails – my husband always makes a crack about me going to school, but sometimes it is fun to mix it up a little. You must post a photo if you end up getting one!

    1. Thank you, Nic. I couldn’t have done it without the spectacularly talented help of Kate 🙂

As for the headband, I am still not convinced! Love the pigtail idea though 😉

  11. I am seriously addicted to headbands – so love them and the bigger, the bolder, the more sparkle the better! love the new look, clean, fresh and bright! well done 🙂

    1. I clearly need to be a braver mama 🙂 Thank you for the kind feedback about the re-design.

  12. Oh never, i love a good headband & working in the world of handmade that i do, i always have flowers in my hair or cute clips, who cares, i’m 35 with an about-to-start-high-schooler & we share all sorts of hair accessories. To me it’s normal & fun & lovely, all my girls love hair accessories & their little brother used to wonder why nothing clipped into his short hair. On a bad hair day or wet hair morning on the school run, they work a treat!! Love Posie

  13. Thanks for posting this. I was thinking about it this afternoon when I was in little creatures having lunch and watching their waitresses come in for their shift and watch them get ready ( we were sitting near the staff entrance) and saw one of the girl’s beautiful silk flower headband and immediately wished i had one too and thought I would be too old to wear one. I love the sarah jessica Parker one that you posted.

Also like Fatima I am more adventurous with my clothings when I hit 30. I don’t know, maybe being a mom and not trying too hard and scared of what people might think of me anymore is giving me the confidence.

  14. My grandmother-in-law wore a fascinator (if that’s the correct word) at my brother-in-law’s wedding last year. She was 89 and it really suited her. The only other person with an object adorning her head was me.

Honestly, accessorising is THE way to go! Head, hands or feet!

So…how do we “accessorise” our blogs? Ha-ha! Lovely work here Christie!

  15. Michelle Dennis Evans says:

Haha, I’ve taken to wearing 2 low pig tails… because I feel young
If you love it… wear it!
    Loving the new blog design
