I used to say, “Slow down,” afraid that she would fall. And then I heard a friend say in response, almost under her breath, “No Immy, don’t slow down.” When I asked what she meant by this, she answered, “I love how she is so enthusiastic about everything.”
I love her enthusiasm too. And I don’t want it to stop. I want her to be enthusiastic about life and embrace every opportunity she has with both hands. I want her to be adventurous and feel safe to take risks (okay, considered risks – I am still after all a Gen X parent). I want her to feel encouraged to chase what it is she wants in life, to dream, to imagine and to believe in herself.
I am trying really hard to restrain my requests for Immy to “slow down.”
