Glitter Ice Painting Sticks

These glitter ice painting sticks are a great way to create on a hot, sunny day.

In fact, this is the perfect sensory art activity to take outdoors, and it makes a great addition to the hands-on color activities collection found in our colorful Rainbows & Kaleidoscopes activities set!

Glitter Ice Painting Sticks

You will need:

  • Ice cube tray
  • Glitter
  • Water
  • Food colouring
  • Lolly sticks or craft sticks
  • White poster board     Glitter ice painting supplies

Preparation:

1. Add glitter to each section of the ice tray.

2. Add a few drops of food colouring to each section of the tray.

Tip: If you choose complimentary colours, such as red, blue and purple or pink, or yellow, blue and green, you are less likely to end up with a sparkly brown splodge at the end!

3. Fill the tray with water. Be careful not to overfill or your colours will mix.

4. Add a lolly stick or short craft stick to each section of the tray.

5. Place the ice tray in the freezer and allow the cubes to freeze completely.

Get Creating:

1. Once frozen, take the ice cubes and place them onto the poster board.

2. Use the sticks to move the cubes around. You’ll start to see the ice melting, leaving colourful glittery trails.

3. Encourage your child to experiment with the ice paint to create lines and shapes as they paint.

4. Continue painting with the ice sticks until all of the ice has melted and you have a cool design on your poster board!

5. Blot the poster board with kitchen paper/paper towel to remove excess liquid (if required) and hang your finished artwork to dry.
