Today blogger, Mum of two and lover of children’s books, Vanessa of Silly Eagle Books, is sitting in the hotseat sharing her response to the question, “What does bedtime look like at your house?”
What does bedtime look like at our house?
Not surprisingly, it both starts and ends with books.
To begin, I read some books with our youngest, Lucia, who is 18 months old at the moment. Currently, she is enjoying books you can sing–in particular Row, Row, Row Your Boat and others in the board song book series by Annie Kubler.
While she does love looking at books and pointing at pictures, she is not into listening to me read the actual words on the page. Where she will allow me to speak the words is when it is in song–thus, I’ve gathered up all our song books and made them accessible to our times in the pink reading chair.
She is also partial to the “I am a…” books such as I Am a Bunny by Ole Risom and others in the Golden Sturdy book format.
Now it is big sister’s (who is 5) time for books–we read anything from the week’s library findings, old favorites from our collection, or stories from the children’s bible.
After several books, we usually cuddle together and talk about our day for a bit. Then, it is off to bed for Juliet and mom gets to have a little time for herself.
Do you incorporate books in your children’s bedtime routines? What are their favorites? I’d love to hear!
Thanks to Christie for letting me guest post–if you enjoy books, I write about all of our favorites on my children’s book blog Silly Eagle Books. I’d love for you to stop by!
