Describe Mum e Assistant in 20 words or less
Mum e Assistant helps busy women get back some much needed “ME” time in their day with organising products and services.
What prompted you to start your own business?
I have had a desire to run my own business for many years. I then found myself in the position of being a single mother and needed to provide for my son. I started with the Virtual Assistant side of the business as I come from a Personal Assistant background so it was the obvious choice. In 2008 I completed a business course run by Bizness Babes in an effort to expand my business and Mum e Assistant was born.
What is your most popular product?
Both the my.mini.organiser and DYO Magnetic Family Meal Planner would be my best sellers, two must have products for every busy Mum.
What do you love about running your own business?
I love that I have been there for all my son’s milestones and achievements and that I’m able to attend all of his school activities.
I love that I can sleep in until 7:30am (as I’m not really a morning person) and go for a jog at 9:15am!
I also love that I have discovered things about myself that I didn’t know I had in me like drive, ambition and a huge desire to succeed and grow as a business woman. In my previous 9-5 jobs the only goal I had was to become a Personal Assistant (which I reached early on) then once I reached that I was happy to just plod along! But now, the sky’s the limit!

Leigh sent me a DYO Magnetic Family Meal Planner to try out and although my pretty ‘domestic disaster’ princess crown remains firmly in place, I found it really helpful as both a way of planning our meals and as a daily visual prompt, both in the morning when I stumble to the fridge to find milk for my tea and it reminds me to take meat out of the freezer, and in the late afternoon when I am actually trying to co-ordinate the whole cooking of dinner gig.
The planner includes a magnetic A4 sheet divided into a four week planner (I actually use it as a fortnightly planner as I grocery shop fortnightly). With it comes 80 magnets to use in your meal planning – 71 of them are meal ideas (no more getting stuck for ideas!), six takeaway magnets and three blank magnets so that you can add your own items too. The Mum e Assistant website even includes a list of recipe links for the meal ideas – also very handy!
I love that it makes me feel more organised (be gone scraps of paper), that the multi-coloured magnets help me to ensure that we are eating a good variety of meal options, that I can look and tell in an instant what I need to organise for that nights meal, and that it is flexible as I can easily rearrange the meal options if our family plans change.
The meal planner retails for $39.95 but Childhood 101 readers can use the discount code ‘childhood’ to receive 15% off products storewide.
