Okay, so I cannot believe that I am posting this photo. This has become my ‘mummy uniform’ and it is even more depressing seeing it in a photo then seeing it looking back at me in the mirror everyday. Jeans, a long sleeved tee, a vest and a cardigan – usually in tones of grey, black or brown. Boring, dull, dreary, ugly. On the flipside, its comfy, it fits (unlike 3/4 of my wardrobe), it hides vegemite and tomato sauce stains left at toddler height reasonably well, and I don’t really have to think about it – I just get dressed and go.
I really struggle with feeling good about my mummy wardrobe. It doesn’t help that my pre-baby wardrobe is not comfortable with my post-baby shape. It is not that my weight has changed dramatically (I am now the 12-14 end of size 12, where previously I was the 10-12 side of size 12) but my tummy is definitely more muffin top-like, my thighs are spongy, and let’s not even talk about what breastfeeding has done to my breasts!
I am happy to say that I don’t wear my trackpants out in public and I am not still wearing maternity jeans or pants so I guess I have made some (albeit very small) headway since Immy was born!
The other difficult part is no longer having that lovely, double income, no kids spending capacity. What I would do for just one pay packet to blow on a new wardrobe at a store of my choice rather than picking through the sales racks at Target in the hopes of finding a gem – clearly you can see from the photo how well this has worked out!
So, I clearly need help, how about you? What does your mummy wardrobe contain? What are your ideas for comfortable, easy (no ironing, please) mummy wear suitable to wear to the shops or the park or even out to lunch?
