We Play

Today Immy and I decided that it was time to replace the zoo with something fresh and new and Immy wanted to make a farmyard in its place. A few pieces of felt became a field, a dam and a muddy pigsty, and stones became hay bales. We have decided it will be our job this week to make a hen house, a barn and some fences to use, I would welcome any ideas on how to make some small farm fences which are self supporting and will survive little fingers?

Once we added our animals, Immy realised that we didn’t have any cows in our collection. What do we if something is missing? Raid the Useful Box and improvise, of course!

Thank you to everyone who is joining We Play. It really does warm my heart to see so many fantastic play ideas for children of all ages. Please ensure your post includes a link back to We Play, so that others can discover these great ideas as well. And my fave for last week…I am feeling particularly inspired by this one here!

And now it is over to you, the playroom is open 🙂

First time playing? Find out how to play here.

  1. After the last couple of weeks I have become determined to make or buy some play silks. They look so good in everyone's landscapes, and I know Princess will be dancing around the house with them, practicing her ballet

  2. Enjoying them as usual…thank you for creating this!

  3. Man, sometimes I wish I was some of your children! It looks like there are so many fun things happening out there, I feel a bit guilty my kids don't do them all.

But our new pets are now taking up a huge amount of our time.

  4. Farms are great fun 🙂

If you have the time to cut some notches in paddle pop sticks you can link them together to form fences.

You can do similar with old CD/DVDs – cut them in half and then cut notches in the sides to link them together. Just need to glue some cardboard at right angles to the discs to help them stand up.

Looks like a great little farm there!
Perhaps for the fence you could use wooden clothes pegs for posts and icypole sticks for the beams? This might be too big for your little farm though…?
    Enjoy your play!

We bought a pack of wooden fences from a toy shop (a small independant not one of the big Toys R Us etc) for about $15 they are about 5cm high and my 2yo plays with them every day, uses them as farm fences for animals, for cars, for figurines, so worth the money and really nice hand made looking ones too. Sorry no ideas how to make your own.

  7. What if you stuck popsicle/craft sticks in playdough or salt dough to make fences?

Your farm scene looks lovely =)

I also want to add some play cloth to our playscapes – what a great idea with a cow, it made me laugh.
