Family Made Oil Pastel Resist Bunting

Immy loves making decorations for family celebrations and this simple crayon resist bunting came about when she wanted to create decorations to hang for Dad 101’s birthday. This resist technique is really easy to do, it’s low mess and I love it because children (and adults!) of all different ages can be easily involved (you can find more art ideas for multi-aged groups here). And you might notice I prefer to use oil pastels over traditional crayons. I just don’t think you can go past the gorgeous rich colours of oil pastels!

Here’s the how-to…

You will need:

• Painting paper
• Scissors
• Oil pastels
• Watercolour block palette
• Brushes
• Cup of water
• Hole punch
• String

To make:

1. Cut your painting paper into large triangle shapes.

2. Decorate each triangle with colourful pictures and designs drawn with oil pastels.

3. Paint over finished drawings with watercolour paints and then put triangles aside to dry.

4. Once dry, punch a hole either side at the top of each triangle and thread them onto your string.

Hang your bunting and enjoy your celebration!
