We Play

Following on from my Turning Inside Out post last week, I remembered that we hadn’t used natural materials with the playdough for the longest time. So one evening as I was preparing dinner, I pulled out the playdough and a bowl of ‘bits’ and Immy was captivated. Her initial investigations primarily involved making impressions in the dough.
The next morning we got the playdough out again. This time she put two small seed pods into the dough (image below left) and I commented that they looked like eyes, and that was it, we have since had day upon day of fun playdough faces, complete with eyes, nose, mouth, ears, hair, beards and even a moustache 🙂 I helped with the hair on the first face but everything since has been Immy’s creation.

    I should find the natural elements we collect for the next time we get the play dough out. Somehow, we collect stuff, but it always seems to go missing …

  2. That is a really good idea. We've hidden things inside theraputty, rice, playdough and slime to encourage the girls to overcome sensory fears but always toys (i even did a video journal of the slime). I'd not thought of using outside items. Would add a whole new sensory layer to the activity.

    I am totally using my pirate post from the Carnival of Natural Parenting – but hey – that's what we've been playing this week! 🙂

    And we love playdough. I need to combine playdough with an idea from last week's linkup and take it outside. I bet Kieran would love that!

    We were playing play dough too! What a great idea to add the parts of nature, I'll have to get a collection together to enhance the sensory experience for the kids.
