Our Play Space: Sharon’s Garden

A peek inside a reader’s play space…

I am a family child care provider and a gardener so I have worked hard to integrate our outside play spaces into the landscape. We have a wonderful time exploring, playing and working in the gardens, playing on the bridge over the dry creek, climbing on stumps, following the flagstone path to the sand pit area, mudpie kitchen, and back yard.

Thank you! We have so much fun out there. I have had a great time figuring out how to make our play area part of the landscape. It took me a while to decide where to put the sand area, but it works so perfectly where it is. The children love it. A bad storm caused some major tree damage, and large branches landed on the sand and flagstone path areas as well as the raised beds in the back. I posted pictures of it on my facebook page. I also posted pics after we got it cleaned up, and a friend told me that her children said, “Oh good! The sand box is ok!” Lol.

Another great thing about this is that it is such an economical way to create a play area, but the benefits are immeasurable. I mostly use what’s on hand, and do the work myself. I have so many more ideas in mind! I love this website, and so enjoy and appreciate seeing others’ play spaces, gleaning ideas, and being amazed at the creativity and cleverness I see there. I’m delighted I can share my play spaces with you!
