Our Play Space: Spider Web Obstacle Course in Our Backyard!

A peek inside a reader’s play space…

I had been planning to make an spider web obstacle course for ages. Finally, on a beautiful spring day, I decided it was time to make it and as it would make a great opportunity to get the kids outside. Although it took a little effort to make, it is now one of our favourite play spaces. As an obstacle course it creates body awareness when trying to get through the web without touching it but that’s not all we use it for.

After making a spider to sit in the middle of the web, we felt we needed to feed him. We created velcro bug throwing game just to give him some dinner. The children just love this game and get even more excited when the web catches their bug even if the velcro didn’t stick.

We love pretend play too, so we become spiders and try to catch our prey and then we swap and become the prey. We have some great actors, with some of the kids falling into the web on purpose!

We love our play space and we hope you will too!

Now this has to be the most unique outdoor play space we have featured so far on Our Play Space! Thank you so much to Penny of Wildlife Fun 4 Kids for sharing. Penny even includes full instructions for those  who feel to make their own spider web obstacle course on her blog.

  1. Thanks so much for featuring Wildlife Fun 4 Kids Christie. I was stoked when I saw this on there this morning!

  2. Great idea. They have a Velcro spider web at atbristol in the UK. I’ve been meaning to make one for ages, thanks for reminding me.
