Party Food for Kids: Giant Chocolate Freckle Pops

Kids Party Food: Giant Chocolate Freckle Pops

At Immy’s school the children usually share cupcakes with the children in their class on their birthday. As Immy only ever licks the icing off cupcakes, this year I decided that my efforts in the kitchen would be much better spent making something that she would actually eat and enjoy. Inspired by the Homemade Chocolate Freckles over at Planning with Kids I thought I might try making some giant chocolate freckle pops. They were easy to make and the children (and teachers) loved them!

I followed the directions shared by Nicole over at Planning with Kids (please do pop over to see her original recipe), with two small changes –

Firstly, I cut a tiny section out of each cupcake wrapper…

…and secondly, I added a cake pop/lolly stick. Sliding it through the gap I had made and into the chocolate before adding the coloured sprinkles. I thought the chocolate might leak through the sides of the gap but melted chocolate is pretty thick and any small amounts that leaked were easily chipped away with a blunt knife.

I wrapped each chocolate freckle pop in clear cellophane and ‘tied’ it with a silver tape flag – choosing tape rather than ribbon or string as I thought it would be easier for the children to remove themselves without the help of an adult.

These giant chocolate freckle pops would also make great party favours.

Do your children take treats to share at school on their birthdays?
