Elf Roll and Dot Number Game Printable

Inside: A fun printable Christmas Elf Roll and Dot Number Game with three levels of difficulty – numeral recognition, simple addition and using doubles.

Looking for a simple, Christmas themed number activity to engage your students in the lead up to the holidays? With three different levels of play, this Elf Roll and Dot Number game is suitable for play with preschoolers through to second graders.

The game offers a great way for children to demonstrate learning about numeral identification, simple addition or using doubles.

Christmas Elf Roll and Dot Math Game

The use of dot markers make it a super motivating learning activity. However, if you don’t have dot markers, the numbers can be crossed off with a marker pen instead, or place the printed sheet inside a plastic folder and use a whiteboard marker – this way the game can be played over and over again.

The game can be played solo or in pairs. Playing as a competitive game in pairs is also a great motivator to learning. We’ve even included a super fun SPEED play idea that is perfect for older students.

Elf Roll and Dot Number Game

You will need:

  • A copy of your choice of Elf Roll and Dot Number printable game page for each player (download instructions below)
  • Dot markers (see alternatives above if you don’t have bingo markers)
  • 1-2 dice

To play: Solo play

Play will vary according to which version of the game being played.

For all versions, begin by rolling the dice (1 or 2 depending upon which game you are playing).

For Roll and Dot the Number, use a dot marker to mark the number rolled.

For Roll and Dot Double, use the dot marker to mark double the number rolled.

For Roll and Dot Addition, roll two dice and add together the numbers rolled. Mark the number rolled.

To play: Pairs

Each player will need a copy of the game page.

Players take turns rolling the dice and marking the number rolled (its double or the sum of the two numbers rolled). In the event a player does not have the number rolled on their game page, they forfeit that turn and play passes to their partner. The first player to cover all of the numbers on their game page is the winner.

To play: Speed round

Each player will need a copy of the game page and an individual set of dice.

Players race to roll their set of dice and mark the numbers rolled as quickly as they can.

The first player to cover all of the numbers on their game page is the winner.
