Immy is a big fan of Ed Emberley’s fingerprint and thumbprint drawing books so when I recently suggested we have fun experimenting with making some fingerprint Disney characters of our own, she was up for the challenge. And we had so much fun making these that it’s become a regular experience at our art table now.
All you need is paper, a fine tipped permanent marker and a collection of coloured stamp pads. However, if you don’t have the colours you need, we found that wetting the block on a watercolour paint palette with a little water and then rubbing your finger on it works too.
Even our littlest artist had a go.
Of course, you don’t have to create Disney characters. Your challenge could be to create characters from a favourite book or TV show. Can you pick who our characters are?
These are two of the Ed Emberley books we regularly use for inspiration;

Have you ever tried fingerprint drawing?
