If you have gift cards, jewelry or other small items to gift this year, these simple fold gift boxes provide a neat gift wrapping alternative. Created from Christmas cards, they take just minutes to make and can be easily customised to fit your gift.
How to Make Simple Fold Gift Boxes from Christmas Cards
You will need:
- One Christmas greeting card per box
- Scissors, pen, ruler
- Hot glue gun, white glue or stapler
To make:
Choose a card and cut along the fold to separate the front from the back. The front will become the top of your gift box, and the back will become the base.
The same principle for marking, cutting and folding the box applies no matter what sized greeting card you are using. The centre area will form the top of the lid or the bottom of the base. You can make this area as big or small as you like, depending upon the gift you are giving. The outer areas will form the sides of the box and determine the depth of your box. When marking up your box, keep in mind that the the base of your box needs to be slightly smaller than the top – remove 3-5mm from the centre area of your box base.
Mark your lines with a pen, pressing firmly to score the lines as you go.
Once you’ve marked your box lid and base, cut the four corners as shown below.
Fold the box sides, the tabs in and glue or staple the tabs to secure.
Repeat for your lid and you’re done! Line with a little tissue paper or cotton wool and add your gift.
Make one or three or a whole collection, they’re a little addictive!
