What does a fabulous family holiday ‘look’ like for your family? The various members of our little family would vote for swimming, good food, beach time, warm weather and sleep as essentials for a successful holiday 🙂 We recently crossed the country to visit the Gold Coast region of Queensland, staying at the Mantra Crown Towers Resort Apartments in Surfers Paradise and I am happy to report that our holiday ticked all five of those boxes.
Our stay at the Mantra Crown Towers was great. The resort features three swimming pools and all Immy wanted to do was ride the pirate ship water slide over and over again, while AJ was happy as a lark splashing around and digging on the man made beach of the children’s pool. As well as a larger resort pool, the resort has a heated, indoor pool (and spa) which was ideal for an all-in, family swim during the cooler evenings (we visited in September). The resort also has a small, undercover playground and a BBQ area.
Accommodation at the Mantra Crown Towers is available in one, two and three bedroom apartments. We stayed in a lovely two bedroom apartment on the 34th floor. The main living space, situated in the centre of the apartment, had obviously recently been refurbished and included a large, comfortable lounge area, six seaterdining table, full kitchen and separate laundry. The master bedroom, ensuite bathroom and walk in robe (otherwise known as the baby’s room 😉 ) were situated on one side of the apartment and were all impressively spacious. The second bedroom (twin single beds) and bathroom were located on the other side of the living space and were also a good size.
A huge private balcony with outdoor seating ran the length of the master bedroom and living space. The views were amazing but being on the 34th floor with two small children I was more than a little nervous.. Fortunately the glass doors opening out onto the balcony featured additional locks which provided me with extra peace of mind. I only wish that the apartment had screen doors fitted so that we could enjoy the fresh air without worrying about small children falling off balconies or various visiting birds raiding the apartment.
I love the convenience of staying in an apartment when we are travelling (especially when we will be away for an extended period) for many reasons but the top three would have to be;
- With the difference in ages and sleeping requirements of our two girls staying in an apartment means everyone is much more likely to get the rest that they need without disturbing anybody else.
- There is usually more space for the girls to play within an apartment than you will find in a standard hotel room.
- The option to prepare simple meals in the self contained kitchen saves us so much money on eating out and means my girls eat more healthily while we are away.
From the moment we arrived with two very overtired little people in tow, Dad 101 and I found the hotel staff friendly and helpful. They didn’t even laugh at us when we asked for help to make the master bedroom darker in an effort to discourage our seventeen month old morning lark from waking before 5am (which was actually more like 3am Perth time!) The Gold Coast is deliciously bright and sunny which is fabulous, except when you would rather be asleep. Fortunately for us, a member of the maintenance staff came and hung some blankets at the window to help us with our dilemma and I cannot tell you what a difference it made 🙂
The Mantra Crown Towers is located within easy walking distance (even for a five year old) to Surfers Paradise beach and the cafes and shops of the Cavill Avenue precinct, including a Coles supermarket which was very handy. There are two restaurants on site – Coast Restaurant (contemporary, Australian menu) and ChiangMai Thai. I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed the luxury of ordering in from ChiangMai Thai and relaxing over a delicious meal with Dad 101 after our happily exhausted girls were in bed.
