I thought I would share with you the project Immy initiated whilst I was recently making the DIY Ice Cream Shop! It all started when I cut the side off a nappy box. I only needed the one side and put the box down. Next thing, there is Immy sizing it up as a good opportunity for fun. She bought it over to me with another offcut – the flap of the box – and told me she needed tape! Then showed me where the flap needed to be taped to make her very own, originally designed CHAIR!
I often wonder which of my traits and talents Immy might inherit, and which of her Dad’s.
In so many ways, he and I are opposites. I am creative, he is not. He is mathematically minded, I am most definitely not. I like to have a plan and be organised, he prefers to fly by the seat of his pants. He loves the beach, I despise sand in places it shouldn’t be. I am patient where he is short-tempered (especially when it comes to Ikea flatpacks!) I love to read, he would prefer to watch a DVD. He is sporty, I am so unco-ordinated that I was never picked for a team. I am a sweet tooth, he prefers savoury treats. I could go on and on.
And so it makes me curious to see, who Immy will be most like in all areas of her development – emotionally, physically, socially, creatively, academically, as a communicator. As a person.
Well it seems she has inherited your love of boxes and reading as a start, her Dad's love of adventure and the water – so far a bit of both of you in a nice blend.
Oh how cute! And what a fabulous way of being creative and not spending a fortune. I'll have to dig out some boxes!
What a great sequence. All kids should be able to see the potential in a box! (And I love it that, like my almost-2-year-old, she likes to spend her time in a shirt and diaper–no pants!)
Your husband would have loved my husbands 7 hour trip inside Ikea the other day when he went to pick up just a few pieces of our new kitchen. Oh no….he has to go back for more when it comes in!
This was such a cute post. I love her creativity! You are teaching her well. After Christmas, we're going to try to make a school bus out of a box, and it will be our first large cardboard box creation.
