  1. We are putting cardboard tubes in. The thicker ones from Glad Wrap etc. Our babe loves to hold and suck them. He also loves bits of ribbon. When our daughter had her first Christmas we gave her a box of tissues and some post it notes. She LOVED them. Connor isn’t quite old enough for those yet.
Schleich toys are great for holding because there are lots of legs to grab and they can be used when they get older.

  2. Great ideas. I am going to get some of these things for my Bubs, due in Jan.

  3. I love this. It’s so unnecessary spend on baby’s first Christmas (or even birthday) when really, their needs are so simple and they benefit from the simplest toys. People keep asking me what I’ve got my daughter who is about to have her first Christmas and I tell them not much, she doesn’t need anything. You can see the judgement..WHAT? You did buy your daughter a motorised car, Barbie dreamhouse and an ipad? It’s consumerism out of control when we feel that we need to ‘spoil’ even babies who really get the most benefit out of simple toys.

    1. BLESS YOU for saying this. SO true and a much needed attitude. We are planning one sentimental gift that baby will get to set out every Christmas and beyond that, only things baby NEEDS! If they don’t need anything, then we won’t be buying extra. My favorite gifts growing up were the homemade ones and a stocking full of books. My mom would individually wrap pieces of chocolate and sprinkle them throughout our stockings. Simple fun.

  4. My baby girl just turned 8 months old. I’m thinking this first Christmas is like a “freebie” in that we don’t have to spend much money on gifts for her. Which is great since our financial situation is very bad right now. All of her gifts will be coming from family (let THEM go overboard!) but I’m sure she’ll enjoy the wrapping paper more than the actual gift.

I really like the idea of a personalized ornament. When my nieces and nephews were babies, I put rattles and other small items that easily fit into their stockings. Thanks for writing this blog! There are lots of great ideas here. I have a newborn nephew that I will soon be shopping for. 🙂

My son will be 4 months by Christmas. These are great ideas!! We also though about putting teething toys in his stocking.
