Immy recently asked if she could have a desk in her room. Not for homework but for displaying her collection of treasures. We moved a small desk that used to be my mother’s (purchased by my great-grandmother many, many years ago, and refurbished by me about ten years ago) into her room and she has been happily lining up her treasures along the desktop, keeping writing supplies, paper and journals in the drawer and working on all manner of secret projects for herself and her friends.
She was sticking many of her pictures straight to the wall above her desk with masking tape and so when I was asked to give the new range of Scotch® Expressions Tape a try, I had the perfect project in mind…making a board for her to display her drawings and other treasures on. As it turned out the tape was so divine that I put it to good use on a number of other decorating projects for the space as well. Here’s how it looks…
Project #1: Magnet Board from an Oil Drip Tray
Yes, you read that right, an oil drip tray! I visited our local automotive store and purchased the tray (like a biscuit baking tray/cookie tray but much bigger) and then alternated strips of the Scotch® Expressions Magic™ Tape and Scotch® Expressions Packaging Tape along the length of the tray. I trimmed along each of the long edges and then used strips of the thinner Scotch® Expressions Magic™ Tape to finish off the edges – a little tricky because of the curved edges but I am really happy with the end result.
The tape was very forgiving when working on the metal surface and could be easily repositioned if it had not been fully pressed into position. I attached the completed magnet board to the wall with 3M Command Large Picture Hanging Strips.
Project #2: Wooden Peg Magnets
A few simple wooden clothes pegs were each subject to a fabulous facelift thanks to Scotch® range of Expressions Tape. I attached a piece of magnetic strip on the reverse side with hot glue gun glue (be sure to use good quality magnet strip or it will not hold the weight of the peg and the paper). Now Immy can hang favourite artworks, cards and other pictures to her magnet board.
Project #3: Photo Frame Facelift
I couldn’t resist giving this plain, white photo frame a little makeover with the gorgeous Scotch® Expressions Packaging Tape as well. I used four lengths of tape (one for each side) and cut a mitre joint where the tape met at each corner. I folded the tape back over the edges of the frame and trimmed at the rear as required.
Project #4: Headband and Hair Accessories Storage Tin
This is my favourite item in the whole collection – somewhere for Immy to store her headbands, hair ties, ribbons and hair clips. I wrapped lengths of coloured Scotch® Expressions Magic™ Tape around a 750gm resealable tin (the type that coffee and powered milk flavouring are available in). Immy can hook her headbands around the outside of the tin and put her other hair accessories into the tin.
I think I might just be a little addicted to Scotch® Expressions Tape!
