Here are five family friendly breakfasts my kids love.
Breakfast #1: Fruit Salad Smoothie
Smoothies are a common menu item come breakfast time in our house. I love that they are so adaptable. While this fruit salad smoothie doesn’t look very pretty, probably because of the avocado and blueberries, it was delicious! I didn’t measure but it contained (per serve);
- ½ ripe banana
- ½ pear (tinned)
- A generous shake of frozen blueberries
- About 1/6th of an avocado
- A good splash of rice milk
Blend all ingredients and serve nice and cold.

Breakfast #2: Homemade Granola
I had never tried making my own granola before but I am now a convert. It was so easy to prepare and even leaving out the nuts (we’re currently nut free) and the sunflower seeds (we had run out), it was delicious. I have even been snacking on it during the day.

Breakfast #3: French Toast
Somewhere along the way we forgot about French toast! We used to eat it all the time for breakfast and it’s been a welcome item since it went back on the breakfast menu. I have even used French toast as an on-the-go breakfast in the car in the past – I can make it ahead and Immy is happy to eat it cold, it’s not messy and it’s healthy to boot. Use biscuit cutters to make shapes and it looks cute too!
Breakfast #4: Homemade Baked beans
I must admit to becoming a little obsessed with the homemade baked beans recipe I shared last week. They are delicious and filling, and keep really well in the fridge for a few days – in fact, I think they actually improve with age!
Breakfast #5: One-pan Brekkie
Now this one was definitely more of a weekend brunch more than a breakfast! Inspired by the recipe over on the Coles website, we skipped cooking the potatoes on hot coals for a quicker par-boil (about 7 minutes) before sticking them in the pan. This was delicious and I am pretty sure it will become a weekend family favourite.
