Hanukkah – Jewish Hanukkah is the Jewish Festival of Lights. The festival lasts for eight nights and celebrates the rededication of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem following a revolt by Jewish rebels against the Syrian-Greek army.

Diwali – India Diwali is the Indian festival of lights, one of the most important holidays of the year. The festival name comes from the row of clay lamps that Indians light outside their homes as a symbol of the inner light that protects from spiritual darkness.

St Lucia Day – Europe St Lucia Day is held on December 13th in the European countries of Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland. It is a celebration of light in the darkest time of the year in these countries. Families celebrate with parades, special songs and delicious treats.

Chinese New Year – Asia Chinese New Year is the festival that celebrates the beginning of a new year on the traditional Chinese lunar calendar. Also known as Spring Festival, it is celebrated by 1/4 of the world’s population.

Japanese New Year – Asia The Japanese celebrate Shogatsu (Japanese New Year) by eating delicious food such as Mochi, a dumpling made from rice. People in Japan visit their temple around midnight on New Year’s Eve to pray to the gods for a good year ahead.
