9 Kids Art Space & Storage Ideas

9 Kids Art Space and Storage Solutions

I recently received a comment on a creative play post on the Childhood 101 Facebook page asking how people store their art and creative play supplies so I reached out to some of my blogging buddies asking them to show us their kid’s art spaces and storage ideas. So here they are –  9 great kids art spaces – including both indoor and outdoor spaces – and some fabulous storage solutions for art and creative play supplies.

Kids art space Life Lessons Plans

1. Art Space at Life Lesson Plans: Brigette hit Ikea for most of the supplies needed to make this art space for her two young children. She really has thought of everything, from hooks to hang art aprons to wipes for clean up once the creating session is over. Art materials that her children can use with less supervision are readily available and those needing adult assistance (as well as her sensory bin supplies) are stored on the shelves above.

Mama papa bubba Kids creative space

2. Mama.Papa.Bubba Creative Space: Jen has created a great space where she and her daughter can work side by side. The long table top provides lots of space for big projects or multiple creations.

Art-Space-An-Everyday-Story

3. Art Area for Small Spaces from An Everyday Story: Kate shares her solution for art storage in a smaller space, as well as a great list of art making materials. She has also previously shared her children’s mini atelier too.

Art space Childhood 101

4. Our Art Space at Childhood 101: Our playroom art space incorporates storage for a range of everyday art supplies and a display space for completed works of art.

Racheous art trolley

5. Outdoor Art Space at Racheous: Rachel shows us how she has set up a creative work space on her verandah and I just love this great mobile storage solution for art supplies – this trolley is going on my shopping list!

Kitchen corner art space The Madhouse

6. Art corner at The Madhouse: Jen has packed a heap of great ideas in this small corner of her kitchen.

Art-Studio-from-Growing-Book-by-Book

7. Art in the basement at Growing Book By Book: For those with a little more space, check out the art studio space Jodie has created in an area of her family’s basement and her great storage ideas.

Art corner Adventures at home with mum

8. Art Corner at Adventures at Home With Mum: Nae has created a great space for her son to access a range of creative supplies independently.

MLB Art Cupboard

9. My Little Bookcase Art Cupboard: I love how Jackie has converted an old cupboard to an art supply storage space by simply adding shelves for better organisation.

So many great ideas here! Thank you so much for sharing our space. The picture reminds me that I should do a little cleaning to get it back looking like the picture. :-)

Ours is in pretty much constant use, Jodie, so it always needs cleaning and tidying!

Thanks for all these varied ideas. One question: how old would you say your youngest child has to be before these ideas are realistic? At the moment my 18 month old boy destroys most things left to hand (which is a shame for my 4 year old girl)...

Some beautiful ideas. I keep looking at those Ikea trolleys every time I visit the store. I'm glad you like our little vintage cupboard :)

Thanks for featuring us. Homes in the UK are much smaller than the US. I wish I had space for some of these fantastic areas.

These are all so lovely , thank you for sharing. I have an art space for my 2 little people which is very well used, especially by my 5 yo. She loves to build amazing structures out of boxes. I don't want to discourage her creativity but i have a storage issue. She gets very upset if i suggest recycling or throwing away any of her creations. Does anyone have any suggestions for display, they are mostly boxes elaborately decorated and taped to other boxes? Do you have rules about how long you keep things? Thanks.

Art and craft is one good platform to allow children to express themselves. It also promotes creativity in children and supports learning through play. However, the storage of those massive art and craft pieces could be a daunting process. We need to store them in containers where future removals will be easy whenever required. The containers could be tubs, bags, bottles, and everything that are easy to move around and accessible for the children.
