Making a Little World Potted Garden for Play
We recently decided to try a little outdoor play project that has been fabulous for inspiring our toddler’s imaginative play – making a Little World potted garden for play, all of her own.
The process was simple. We chose three large ceramic garden pots of varying sizes, filled them with potting soil and added a selection of child friendly plants.
We used Alpine Pratia because it’s a soft and grassy like ground cover for our little world park, Orange Peel scented Thyme because it smells so lovely, and a little potted color with flowering plants. For more ideas on plants to choose, check out our article on child-friendly playful plants.
After watering the plants in, Immy added some small riverstones as stepping stones for her figurines. And then it was time to play!
The potted play garden is located under cover, just outside of our playroom doors so it will mean that Immy can easily transition between indoor and outdoor play. I foresee many, many hours of imaginative play with a range of figurines in this little dedicated play space.

How beautiful. Gardening is something I haven't done with my children (having moved so much)but I will have to do something like this in a pot!
Wonderful! I've been thinking of something like this since seeing Teacher Tom's little worlds, but I expect ours will have dinosaurs.
Little worlds are so hot right now. Hope Immy rules her kingdom well. xx
That is a lovely idea Christie. We're just about to create a vegie patch at our new house so maybe it can be my girl's little world. I remember doing something similar as a kid. We added little containers to be swimming holes for our little toys.
Christie, I love this idea. I know my little girl will so love being the master of her own fairy land!
Thanks for the inspiration!
I can see that I'm going to have to get better at gardening! I've seen so many gorgeous ideas but have been daunted by my complete lack of ability, these look like they might be more in my league. I desperately want a herb garden!
What a great idea. My husband is an avid gardener, and the kids love to help, but I never thought of giving them their own plants that they can mess with to their hearts' content. They'd love that!
Adorable 🙂 I'm going to try this out once the weather gets warmer 🙂
