Our Play Space: Paige’s Playroom

A peek inside a reader’s playspace…

Hello!
Myself, my husband, 2 and a half year-old daughter Paige, and a little baby boy currently growing in my belly live together in our home in the woods of New England. Paige’s play room was originally touted as the “formal living room” when we bought the house. It went on to become our office, and then after little use when Paige came along, it became her playroom. We spend much of our days in here playing and growing. In planning the space, I wanted to create “zones” that made it easy for her to find what she wanted to do (and ultimately easy for her to clean up). Originally there was a book corner, an art corner, a toy corner, a music area, and a dress up area. Not to mention a little corner for Mama to sit, read and make artwork of her own!

As time has gone on, the “corners” have evolved to meet whatever the current needs are. Right now, the book corner has been moved to the family room and a “kitchen/cooking/tea party/pretend play” corner has replaced it. The biggest lesson I have learned is that these play spaces need to stay flexible and ever-changing because our little ones are always changing and growing. I try to remember to keep the space aligned to her current skills, interests, and developmental needs. We’ll see what happens when our little boy arrives! You can read more about our adventures at my blog Me and Wee and specifically about the playroom evolution here.

Thanks so much for your time!!!

  1. Stunning, Megan! I adore the muted green you have used. It complements the white so well. How inspiring. Thank you for sharing it.

  2. This is uncanny timing for me. We’re in the process of turning the sun room into a playroom for the girls. A large part of that is it’s warmer in the mornings and cooler in the evenings during summer. Plus, the volume of toys that have encroached onto the living space is doing my head in a little!
I love the idea of keeping it flexible. Will certainly be taking that onboard. Thanks for the inspiration. 🙂

    1. Be sure to check out the early ‘Our Play Space’ posts as well, Kel. There have been heaps of inspiring ideas 🙂
