Our Play Space: Responding to Children’s Interests

A peek inside a reader’s play space…

I operate a Family Day Care service from my home. My play space changes and evolves to suit the needs and interests of the children in my care.

This play space (with stepping stones leading to our mini fairy garden) has seen much dramatic play taking place. We have made camp fires with logs/sticks and other loose materials. The stepping stones are great for using pent up energy and awesome for counting games. The fairy garden is much loved and even my older boys have been seen making tea for a fairy!

You can also spy our vegie patch and chicken coop in the background. Great for teaching the children about the environment and encouraging sustainability.

Big thanks to Narelle of Narelle’s House for sharing her space with us. I can see such wonderful potential in this space ~ it is like a marvellous blank canvas for play, perfect for changing up according to the interests and dreams of the children.

Do you have a play space to share? Submit your play space here and you too could be featured on Childhood 101. Be sure to visit the previous Our Play Space posts for more playful kids decor inspiration!
