Our Play Space: The Ever Changing Playroom

A peek inside a reader’s play space…

When we bought our 100+ year old house a year ago the thing that immediately sold me on it was all the possible playspace. We have a great front porch, good green space outback and a small room that was formally a back porch but is perfect for playing. Since moving in this room has been in constant use by my 1 and 3 year old daughters. They make art, play music, cook pretend food, look at books, play trains and dress up all in this one space. The room sees so much action I thought it would be fun to document what happens in the space in a 24 hour period. So at 8pm one evening after my regular night time clean up I took a picture of the room and the the next morning I photographed the room every hour or so throughout the day. Looking back at the pictures in sequence was very funny, watching the constant ebb and flow of toys and children. I would love to see what 24 hours looks like in others’ play spaces!

What a great idea!  You can see all of Katie’s 24 hours of play photos in her post here at The Childhood List.

Do you have a family or kids play space in your home that you love (indoors or outdoors)? Submit your play space here and you too could be featured on Childhood 101.

  1. Hi Christie, I just jumped over to The Childhood List blog and left a comment and then got a delivery failure notification – don’t know how to tell her so thought I would let you know instead. x

  2. Love the idea of photographing the playroom over a 24 hour period.

My sister in law has set up a webcam to photograph their building site (new home) every 24 hours. Wonder if I could set up my computer to do similar so the children were not distracted by me popping in with a camera.

  3. Just to add – I’d let them know the webcam would be on and wouldn’t have it linked up online just see if I can get it to take snaps to record to the hard drive.
