I feel that I have been missing in action around the interwebs lately, with little time for Facebook, Twitter, answering emails, reading, commenting on or linking to blogs I love, or responding to comments here on Childhood 101…the to-do list goes on and on. I appreciate every comment and email I receive and read them all, it is just a little hectic here at the moment… and it is not just because we have a bub on the way and a kitchen under renovation!
I have a huge March 30 deadline…
And it is making my knees quiver…
And my insides quake…
And it’s keeping me very, very busy!
You see, on March 30th the completed manuscript for my book is due. Yep, I have been busy, squirrelled away writing a book. Well, two-thirds of a book really. My e-book, Art Not Craft: The Process of Learning Creatively, is the basis for a to-be-expanded, real paper and ink book!
Let me back up a little and share the story so far. Back in April last year, not long after the e-book was published, the extraordinarily talented MaryAnn F. Kohl (herself a many times over published author of books about children and creativity) contacted me with an invitation to act as my agent to find a publisher for Art Not Craft. You could have knocked me down with a feather! I asked lots of questions and MaryAnn was very patient with me and a month or so later she was off to find me a publisher.
I think I may have actually momentarily fainted when the first early childhood resource publisher she approached on my behalf, Gryphon House, said yes! I remember the moment I first saw the email. It was a Saturday. We had just spent the morning hunting for a new-to-us car and had stopped in at a very busy fast food outlet for sustenance. Dad 101 wondered why I was grinning and waving my phone manically at him to come back from the massive queue. Needless to say, he was soon grinning from ear to ear as well.
After more questions and much to-ing and fro-ing, almost six months after MaryAnn’s initial email, we had an agreement and I had a deadline! It seemed so long ago then but a nasty bout of pneumonia, a pregnancy, Christmas and New Year, and starting kindy seem to have made it appear on the horizon much more quickly than I expected it to.
So I apologise if your email is one of those sitting in my inbox waiting to be actioned, or if you have asked me a question on Facebook or the blog and I haven’t had a chance to respond. I have been more than a little preoccupied.
But I promise I will get back to you… after March 30!
