Best Scented Playdough Recipe
It certainly passes the toddler sniff test!
So what’s the secret ingredient?
It’s herbal tea!
I brewed a strong batch of herbal tea (two cups of boiling water to three tea bags) and used it in exchange of the water in my regular homemade playdough recipe.
In this case I used a Cranberry, Raspberry and Strawberry blend and the scent was magnificent. We have also experimented with a Lemon and Ginger blend and Peppermint herbal teas – these scents have been just as lovely and fragrant but not quite as strong. The end result depends upon the natural qualities of the tea’s ingredients and the strength of the individual brand of tea – play around with the number of bags you use until you brew a scent you love.
Apart from the tea, you’ll just need regular ingredients for homemade playdough – flour, salt, oil and cream of tarter. The recipe below is the simplest, neverfail cooked playdough recipe that I have used for years as a parent and a kindergarten teacher.
And whichever herbal tea blend you choose, our first grader tells me that scented playdough is perfect for making embellished star lollipops.
And our toddler just loves poking things in it!
