COLOUR SONGS & RHYMES TO SING WITH EVERY COLOUR

The Colour I See
Sing together as a group. Children stand up and complete the actions when their clothing matches the colour chosen.

Red*, red is the colour I see,
If you’re wearing red then show it to me,
Stand up, turn around, touch the ground,
Show me your red then sit back down.

* Repeat, naming a different colour each time.

Twinkle, Twinkle Rainbow Star
Fun to play with a set of coloured felt/flannel stars on a felt/flannel board. Choose one child at a time to come and find a star in the colour you are singing about.

Twinkle, twinkle yellow* star,
How I wonder where you are?
Let’s go looking here and there,

If You’re Wearing Red Today

Many Fish Rhyme
Fun to play with a set of coloured felt/flannel fish on a felt/flannel board. Choose one child at a time to come and find a fish in the colour you are singing about.

There are so many fish,
In the deep blue sea.
What colour fish does (child’s name) see?
(Child chooses a fish and says the colour name).

Can You Find?
(Tune: Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush)
Place a variety of coloured blocks, craft sticks, ribbons or other tokens in the centre of the circle before you begin. Each child finds an object to match the colour being sung about. Alternatively, one child is chosen to find the object for each verse.

Can you find the colour red*,

Can you find the colour red,
And hold it in the air?

Find the Purple

Play with a set of coloured crayons. Choose one child at a time to come and find the crayon that matches the song you are singing.

Hokey Pokey Rainbow
Offer children ribbons or paper streamers in a variety of colours. Invite them to hold one streamer in each hand (their choice of colours from those offered). Stand in a circle to sing. Those who have a matching streamer, do the actions for the verse being sung.

You do the hokey pokey and you turn yourself around,
