Yoga Poses For Kids: Printable Body Awareness Cards. Great for Brain Breaks.

As I shared with our first set of printable Body Shape Cards (click the link to download), making body shapes has always been a popular activity with the children I have taught and my own kids.

The activity is simple to do – use your body to make a series of shapes. It’s great for developing spatial and body awareness, body control, co-ordination and balance. And it requires a good dose of concentration and problem solving too.

Today I am sharing a new set of printable body shape cards that take inspiration from yoga poses commonly used in yoga for kids. This also makes them a handy resource for teaching mindfulness to your children, and they are also a great tool for classroom brain breaks for kids aged seven and up.

The cards show silhouettes of figures in a range of yoga poses. To play, you simply show a card to your child or group of children, inviting them to use their bodies to try to replicate the figure. It’s trickier than it looks, making them most suitable for use with primary/elementary school aged children.

As well as being useful in the classroom, they can also totally be used in the home or with a range of community groups.

When printing, select “Fit to printable area” (or similar) to ensure the page fits with your printer type and local paper size (these have been created at A4 size). I suggest printing onto card stock or matte photo paper. Laminate the printed cards for durability. Punch and store on a ring for easy use.

Love this such a great idea. My daughter (2) does yoga at daycare and absolutely loves it. Will try these!

Dear Childhood 101 Get a life... Last time I checked yoga wasn't really a young Childs thing. Sure 1 or 2 min of meditation won't hurt but if you think that at lunch kids should be doing yoga instead of violent things such as rugby you have another thing coming
